Nickel-cadmium single cells are designed for general purpose applications, where maximum operating reliability is a key factor: switch tripping, emergency lighting, alarms and DC instrumentation.

LD P cells are designed for long discharge periods, typically two hours and longer. M P cells are designed for medium discharge periods between 30 minutes and 3 hours.
